Comments After spending 10 days at Wakatobi Resort we boarded the Pelagian for a one week cruise. The diving was good with plenty of colourful small fish. Some of the highlights were peacock mantis shrimp, blue ribbon eels, thin ghost pipefish, ornate ghost pipefish, nembrotha nudis, pigmy seahorse, common seahorse and cuttlefish. On one of the night dives we saw mandarin fish mating and fighting.

There was plenty of beautiful, healthy coral to see, however, there was also damaged coral. During one dive we heard a loud explosion that was dynamite fishing. This also happened during one of our dives at the resort. We also saw bleached coral, the water temp was a balmy 85 degrees.

The food was good but not as delicious as it has been on other liveaboards we have been on. A light breakfast was available before the first dive of the day and a made to order hot breakfast was served after the morning dive. Three options were given for lunches and dinners. Snacks were always available. The high end coffee maker was very popular among guests, producing very good lattes, cappuccino and regular coffee. A wide selection of tea was also available. Alcohol was very expensive, $26 US for a glass of wine.

The lounge, dining room and dive deck are all comfortable and well kept. We were in the deluxe room which was roomy and had plenty of storage. However, the A/C was not working well. Our first request for cooler air didn’t lead to any improvement. When my husband complained a second time he was told that previous guests had not complained??? Not the response you expect on an expensive, luxury boat. The Pelagian website says “All interior spaces are air conditioned with individual controls”. There was an A/C control device in the room, but it did nothing to change the room temperature. We were then told the temperature had to be adjusted elsewhere on the boat by a staff member. When that didn’t work we were advised the staff would work on our A/C unit while we were out doing the next dive. That work produced an improvement but the room was still too hot to sleep well at night. For the record, at the resort we kept the A/C set at 23 Celsius and were very comfortable. We were not wanting an unreasonably cold room.
