UW Photo Comments The Wakatobi representative in the USA, Miichelle, was very responsive, answering all questions by phone and email as they came up during planning the 19 day dive trip.
The diving was spectacular, I logged 40 dives including 4 night dives, a must!
We were assigned one dive guide, Andhy, a PADI instructor, with exceptional knowledge of the dive sites and critters. He was able to find numerous pygmy seahorses that we could only see with his magnifying glass. The colors of every dive site were like being in fantasyland; I haven't seen a healthy reef like this since PNG in 2008.
Highlights include several cuttlefish that enjoyed being observed, dragon-moths crawling on the sand, buried stone fish, and a few octopuses, one on patrol in its domain.
There were currents at times, including the strongest one I've ever experienced in 30 years of diving. I estimated it at 4-5 knots and it carried us for over 10 minutes horizontally and vertically. A beginner diver probably would have panicked.
