Comments Facilities and staff at Kungkungan Bay Resort, which, as far as I can tell is managed completely by Local Indonesians, are first rate. Diving is predominantly "muck" diving in Lembeh Strait, with a few shallow walls thrown in. Divemasters or dive guides extremely helpful and knowledgeable and skilled at finding macroscopic creatures (shrimp, squat lobsters, crabs, pygmy seahorses, etc) as well as octopuses (coconut and wunderpus), cuttlefish, and various fish species (many frogfish) including some that are restricted to the region.

Food was delicious and plentiful (especially the tuna ceviche). Alcohol is available but limited in variety.

Accommodations were very comfortable and clean, with bedroom/bath area airconditioned.

Beyond the resort--- the half day excursion to the monkey forest to see lilac kingfisher, black macaques, and tarsiers was interesting, but entailed a substantial hike through the local "jungle".

Downside- Drive from Manado to KBR was 1 1/2 hrs., but resort provided transportation for us (we arrived in Manado about 9:30 p.m. and were met by staff from the resort).

Overall- We were very impressed with this resort. If Muck diving and macrophotography are your interests this is a wonderful place to visit. We would rate it 5/5 stars.

UW Photo Comments Nice photography room with facilities for charging batteries (220 and 110v), compressed air, and adequate lighting and ventilation. Room was secured from dusk until dawn.
Fresh water tanks for camera gear readily available on shore at base of dock. No fresh water tanks on boats for gear (transported carefully in laundry baskets by staff), but not really a problem as dive sites were <15 minutes from dock and we returned to dock between morning dives.
