Surely as a scuba diver who has been entranced by the intelligence and antics of octopuses, you would never eat one. But, my god, some people do.

In fact, 370,000 tons are caught every year, mainly off the coasts of Morocco and Mauritania, largely for restaurants in China and Japan. And then there are the Spaniards, who consume about 40,000 tons each year, much of it in Pulpo Gallego a popular tapa. So in 2022 a Spanish company, Nueva Pescanova, proposed farming octopus on an industrial scale, and prepared to invest the equivalent of $75 million in the project....
