The Weird World of Sea Slugs

from the April, 2023 issue of Undercurrent   Subscribe Now

We all love the colorful and unusual sea slugs, creatures that photosynthesize -- that is, create their energy from sunlight, like plants. Colorful nudibranchs are sea slugs that wear their feathery gills on their backs and are popular with macro photographers. Take a deep dive into the lives of these beautiful critters with invertebrate zoologist Michael Middlebrooks, who, in his TEDx talk, introduces the solar-powered slugs that lost their shells -- but gained the ability to harness the power of the sun directly.
