Miss a Connection and Arrive Four Days Later

Douglas Charles Airport (DOM) is where American Airlines arrives from San Juan, but not daily. So, when several travelers in our group missed their San Juan Saturday connection to Dominica, they found the next American flight would be Wednesday.

They found an alternate flight to Guadeloupe, overnighted there, and caught a ferry to Dominica Sunday. But one family in our group said the hell with it and remained in Puerto Rico for the week.

The safest bet is to fly a regional airline, not American, for the second leg from San Juan; if you miss it, you should be able to hook up with another flight later in that day or the next to fly through destinations such as Barbados or Antigua, to arrive at DOM or the smaller Cane Field Airport, 45 minutes from Soufriere. I took a Silver Airlines 42-passenger turboprop to DOM.
