Comments Hurricane Divers has a great location right in Santa Cruz (one of the Huatulco bays) with a two-minute walk from the shop to the marina. Shop manager Nata and boat captain Javier took excellent care of us. We dove two dives each day for five days. There were only two other customers, so it felt like our own private boat. Left the shop at 9:30 each day. Boat rides were 10-30 minutes. Easy back roll entry and easy ladder climb without BC to get back in. Water and soda on the boat.

The underwater topography was nice. There were walls, big boulder fields, and many varieties of coral. I saw more puffer fish than in all of my 22 years of diving! Many rays with a brief view of two eagle rays. Lots of eels and schools of butterfly fish. The biggest bummer was that we only had about 20-foot vis all week. There were probably more bigger critters just beyond our view. The water was warm (about 80 degrees F), though, and I just wore shorts and a rash guard.

Above the water, I enjoyed watching the pelicans along the colorful rocky shoreline as we visited the many beautiful hidden beaches. Hurricane Divers has an all-day package that included lunch on the beach. We only saw other dive boats twice.

Bahias de Huatulco is a very cute area. It was very clean with nice sidewalks, good transportation, and very safe. The birds and flowers were beautiful! We stayed at a private condo (Sueno del Mar)in Chahue (one of the Huatulco bays). Everything we needed was within a 20-minute walk. We found many wonderful restaurants including Mercader, Clio's, and Mama Elsa’s Hamburgers (but her tacos were my favorite). We were able to use credit cards at the restaurants and grocery store. It was handy to have pesos for taxis and some restaurants. Banks and ATM machines were easy to find. Prices seemed reasonable. The people of Huatulco were wonderful!
