Comments East Cape Explorers has a shop in the San Jose Del Cabo Marina, and offers dives 6 days per week. On Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, they offer local diving. We joined them for a Tuesday dive in December. They headed out east initially to dive “Shipwreck”, but the visibility was poor, so they headed west, and dove Escalante and Palmilla instead. While the seas were calm, visibility was not great at either of the sites the day we were there (40 & 60’, respectively). Our guide (and store manager Max) led the dive, and asks all divers to stay within visual range at all times – if you and your buddy lose contact for more than a minute, you are expected to surface to rejoin. The dive leaders dive with GoPros, and share the footage and pictures with all divers at the end of the day for free, which was a nice addition. They do work hard to find interesting stuff for divers. The local diving wasn’t great the day we were there, but Cabo is not generally a diving destination for full dive holidays, so we weren’t expecting anything more, and were just happy to reset the “time since the last dive”, and get back in the water. The big draw for many divers, though, is the Monday / Wednesday / Friday dives to Gordo Banks, where they are the only (?) shop with regular trips there. (Note that to do a Gordo Banks dive, you must first have done a prior day of diving with them at local dive sites) The Monday that we checked in, the divers reported seeing 200 hammerheads per dive schooling over the seamount. In fact, for the first two weeks of December, they’d been lucky on every trip, although activity is unpredictable and cannot be planned on. The dive profile is challenging, though, since you’re diving at 80-100’ in blue water, and can’t see the bottom (which is close to 200’), or the surface, so you’re just trying to stay in position with the divemasters. They charge a reasonable $120 per person for local dives, $195 per person for Gordo Banks dives, and rent full gear for $35 per person per day. I thought they were well-run and would recommend them to those staying in San Jose Del Cabo, or interested in diving the Gordo Banks.

UW Photo Comments No special accommodations available for UWPs, and not popular with UWPs, but good subject matter available on the Gordo Banks Dives. Maybe not worth it most days for local dives.
