Comments Underwater Tribe is an exceptional scuba dive company for planning a dive holiday in Bali, or other Indonesian destinations. My daughter and I planned a 17-day private scuba-dive itinerary with the assistance of Miho, owner-partner, focusing on muck diving around Tulamben. We included sites in the Padangbia, Amed and Seraya areas that were easily accessible from our resort base in Tulamben. We had an agreement with Underwater Tribe to maintain a flexible itinerary subject to change because of weather and sea conditions and if we wanted to re-dive any particular site.
Miho met us at the Ngurah Rai International Airport and immediately made us feel welcome and in good hands. She introduced us to our driver, Gede, who drove us to our resort at Tulamben and who would be our driver for the duration of our dive Safari.
After a days rest, we began our three-week dive and photography safari with Parman, the dive guide and critter finder "extraordinaire". Parman's keen eye and broad knowledge of the behaviours and habitats of specific critters ensured that a wide range of critters were found and great photo opportunities had, from rhinopias and Ambon scorpionfish to wire coral crabs and a multitude of super macro critters. Many critters were so small that I needed to follow Parman's pointer through my housing viewfinder and diopter to locate them. We saw all the favourites including: a wide variety of nudibranches, mantis, harlequin and tiger shrimps, boxer and soft-coral crabs, seahorses, frogfish and scorpionfish; the list goes on. Parman and Gede proved to be an effective team. They provided for everything we needed and all assistance that we required. Our equipment was set up at each dive site, rinsed after each dive and stored overnight and ready each morning.
I am a senior diver, and both Parman and Gede took measures to ensure that I was safely into the water as they assisted me to put on my BCD and hand me my camera. Water and refreshments were readily available, and we were encouraged to keep hydrated. Lunches were included with our package; Parman always recommended a quality restaurant that had a wide range of lunch options. My daughter and I were sad to have to leave Parman and Gede with whom we had formed a special friendship and shared an extraordinary diving adventure.
Unfortunately after a days break from our fantastic diving adventure my daughter and I were seriously injured in a traffic accident on the way to the airport and home. We owe debt of gratitude and thanks to Mike, Miho and Luca who, learning of the accident, immediately went to the hospital where we were taken. Underwater Tribe guaranteed payment so that essential surgeries could be started while DAN and my other insurance agency were contacted and funding support initiated. Mike took charge of the negotiations with hospital authorities, contacting DAN and Medoc and our families in Canada. Throughout our nine days hospitalization, Mike and Miho checked in with us and reported on the status of insurance claim proceedings, kept our family updated on our conditions, as well as helped us to communicate with local medical staff. I cannot imagine how my daughter and I would have coped with all the detail and procedures required in a foreign country if we were left on our own in this emergency.[None]
