Comments Bunaken still great wall diving after many years (last visited 1996)—though some trash now. Resort well-located: Good to be out on the island! Hidden in mangroves so need booties for treks from boat to land at low tide. Local Sulawesi dive guides excellent: knowledgeable about sites, currents, tides (critical with shore run-off at low tide); guides can find great “small stuff”—nudibranchs, leaf scorpionfish, frogfish, pygmy seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish; also, we were engulfed in masses of schooling pyramid butterflyfish and red-tooth triggerfish! Turtles, Turtles—on some dives over a dozen! 3 dives per day offered plus night dives on request. Several small boats are used. Most sites within 10-20 minutes from resort. We had 4 divers per guide—all highly experienced divers and could do 70 min. dives no problem. Some strong currents and up-and-down-wellings. Very good boat captains. Guides & crew helpful with gear for us “senior divers” without condescension. At resort: Nice pool (about 15 meters long) for dive training & relaxing after dives. Refreshing. Some big cabins available ensuite. 5-gal. drinking water containers in rooms; balconies and racks for gear drying. Wi-Fi very erratic at best. Buffet meals hearty w good variety; vegetarian options; can order eggs of choice at breakfast in addition to buffet. Overall very good value. Good payment system: Small upfront fee and pay for what you actually do. (Only resort where we found quality postcards to buy!) Some frustrations with senior management. (Note: Owners have many dogs and dog shit on paths is common.)

Enforced diving restrictions Frequent 2-tank dives from small boats. Dive guides flexible depending on "group"--usually 4 per guide; try to "group" w divers of similar expertise for more dive freedom. 70 min "normal" for us. Reasonable profiles. Lovely walls relatively shallow.
