Comments Raja Ampat is a remote place to Europeans and Americans. From 2018 Garuda flies from Jakarata to Sorong directly, though very expansive. Aian divers get to Sorong with only 2 flights from Singapore, Japan and Manila,
Our 9 night Raja Ampat itinerary aboard Pearl of Papua was originally scheduled to dive in Misool and Central Raja Ampat, however it was impossible to get to Misool due to high wave. I heard one live–aboard was stuck in Misool and couldn’t move to other destination then. The boat owner changed the direction immediately to Northern Raja Ampat where we didn’t see any other vessels. Unexpectedly we could climb up two mountain peak Wayag and Piaynemo to overlook at iconic lime stone islands.
All local staff are friendly and worked well to recognize your favorite plate to eat and place to dive It was our first live-aboard trip with Asian passengers, Indonesian staff, Singaporean and Japanese divers.
Raja Ampat: decent visibility and a wide range of macro and diverse creatures that usually make the trip to Raja enticing. We enjoyed very healthy reefs and diving in fish soup. The diving is superb for beautiful coral, variety of fish, some muck diving. Webbegong shark is everywhere encounter rate per dive is more than 50%. We also encountered Black tip, white tip, epaulette walking shark at night. We love multiple combination of schooling such as Yellow Tail Fusilier and Jack, blue ribbon Sweetlips and diagonal sweetlips and Sea parch, Batfish and Redcoat.
The trip to Misool is guaranteed next time, so we booked next year.
