Comments PROS:
Some of the best diving we’ve ever done. We’ve dove in Indonesia many times before. The diversity and numbers of fish still astound us. From the tropical fish in the Bunaken National Marine Park to the small critters at Lembeh Strait, it has to be experienced to be appreciated. Compared to the last time we dove in the Bunaken National Marine Park there were even a greater number of sea turtles, mostly green sea turtles. On one dive, over 50 different turtles were counted.

Since we last stayed at Murex Manado many improvements have been made. Many rooms have been upgraded and now have adequate outlets for charging various devices. The dining area has been improved and delicious meals are served. The Internet speeds are now faster and one can check and send emails, etc. There is no charge for using the Internet.

The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. By the next morning, they all remember and call you by your name!

The dive guides are very knowledgeable, helpful, and safety conscious. They write underwater on a slate the names of the various marine life seen (they’d point them out while we were diving). After the dive, one could photograph the slate, which helped the diver identify the very diverse marine life if they photographed them.

The photography room is much larger than before and has more charging outlets.

While staying and diving in Murex, divers also have the option of diving at their “sister” dive facilities, i.e. Banka Resort and Lembeh Strait. These are day trips. However, one can book overnight stays at these resorts, too.

Murex Resort also offers trips on the island, should one wish to take a day off from scuba diving. Various options include: a trip to the Highlands of Sulawesi where one sees cloves being harvested, traditional wooden houses being made, going to a “traditional market” where delicious fresh produce and various animals are sold for food, hiking at the Mahawu Volcano, and having a delicious lunch at a resort; seeing wildlife at the Tangkoko National Park; etc.

Massages are now offered at the resort, a bargain at $25 US as of July 2024.

The boats are now larger and faster than in the past. This cuts the travel time from the resort to the Bunaken National Marine Park in half (about a 30 minute boat ride).

Once the dive boat returns to the resort, the dive guides and other staff rinse your gear and hang it in a covered drying area for you. The next morning, they bring your dive gear to the boat for you. This makes the diving relaxing.

CONS:
From the United States the travel time is very long.

Closest Airport Manado (MDC) Getting There Depending on where in the World one travels from, various airlines offer different options. We flew from Los Angeles (LAX) non-stop to Singapore (SIN) and then flew Scoot Air - which I believe is operated by Singapore Airlines - to Manado (MDC). NOTE: the flight from Los Angeles to Singapore is long (about 15 hours) and there is a significant time difference. We opted to spend several days in Singapore before continuing to Indonesia. This was helped us get into the new time zone.
