Comments This was our second trip aboard Mermaid 1 to Komodo, after a gap of three years. The service and quality of this operation remain very high. Cabins very comfortable, food delicious, the crew were again absolutely outstanding, and the diving was wonderful.

This boat departs from Bali, avoiding the need for an internal flight to Labuan Bajo. Diving on route in Sumbawa is a great warm up, and diving Sangean Volcano on the way back, with its the black sands, vibrant reefs, hot rocks and bubbles is a real treat.

According to the crew 2016 has been a fantastic manta season, and this trip was no exception. We saw some 60 mantas across two different sites. We experienced some strong currents which resulted in great rides, and added to our bucket list of creatures on the muck dives, including hairy frogfish and a flamboyant cuttlefish.

While not the most expensive of the Liveaboards plying the Komodo area, I highly recommend Mermaid 1 as a great experience.
