Comments This was our second trip to Gangga Island Resort having been there previously in 2017. This was also our middle stop on this years dive adventure. (See my reviews of Raja Ampat Aggressor and Siladen Resort and Spa)

The dive boats have been upgraded since our last visit. The boat we used for the week was spacious, fast and equipped with a good ladder allowing for easy climbing. The boat also has a head. Diving is comprised of a two tank morning trip that leaves at 8 and returns between 12 and 12:30. The afternoon single tank dive leaves at 3 and returns around 5.

My wife and I had our own dive guide for most of the trip with just a few dives where others were assigned to our group. This was mostly predicated on matching dive skills and air consumption.

The species of marine life and corals we observed underwater appeared similar to what we experienced on the last trip...many species and some vibrant corals, but the water clarity/visibility was less than last time probably due to the time of year we went.

While Nitrox is included in the dive package the machine was not working during our entire stay. It was repaired on the day of our departure.

During our stay there were as few as five guests and a maximum of ten; less than half of full occupancy.

Meals were served off a menu that offered several selections and allowed for choice due to dietary restrictions. The selections included both Indonesian style foods and some Western foods. Service was enthusiastic yet uneven. Coffee and water refills mostly required proactive requests or getting up and fetching it yourself.

Our bungalow was very nice although we had to change rooms because our original room did not have a working air conditioner. The bungalow was on the beach and had a porch with a daybed, the main room had a comfortable bed, a desk/credenza, and ample closet space. The bathroom was large with a shower area and double vanity, again with shelves to store your things.

In summary, while we enjoyed our stay at Gangga Island Resort and Spa it is apparent that maintenance is being neglected. Gangga is a good land based option for diving the Bangka Island and North Sulawesi areas but is pricey compared to the the offering at Siladen Island Resort.

UW Photo Comments Boats were equipped with tanks for cameras. An additional tank was added when needed due to number of cameras. Nice camera room with plenty of charging stations and compressed air. Unfortunately, the air conditioning in the room was inoperable making for short stays in the stuffy room.
