Comments Cocotinos is a very clean and well kept resort. Rooms were spacious and everything worked beautifully. The attitude of the staff was fantastic. Very pleasant compared to the terribly arrogant attitude of a well known resort in the Lembeh Strait that we had to endure the week before.
The food was hit and miss but the staff was very accommodating. Even though the menu was limited if you liked something and wanted to eat it everyday they would make it for you no problem. The staff was a breath of fresh air.
The diving in Manado was quite nice. Cocotinos doesn’t actually have a true house reef. No shore diving. Their “house reef” is actually a 10 minute boat ride away. Had plenty of critters to keep us happy but also had plenty of wide angle sites with great viz. A nice mix. Bunaken wall was interesting with great viz and wild currents that could change in an instant but the beauty is over-hyped. It was nice but really wasn’t that amazing. Didn’t see any pelagics are large fish. Only one turtle.

Because Bunaken was an hour away by boat, the usual schedule was a 3 boat dive trip leaving at around 8 and returning around 3 or 4. Night dives at 6pm were available with a minimum of 2 people.

Even though during the dive briefing the divemaster would always say that dive times were 50 minutes the dives were always at least one hour and usually longer. There were only 3 of us on the boat during the entire week so I don’t know if this would be the case with a boat filled with 20 divers.

The only problem during the week, which was very quickly fixed, was that the first 3 days we had a dive guide that we were thoroughly happy with. We clicked and he understood out diving style and we were very pleased with his spotting skills.
Suddenly one day we were set up with another dive guide who we were unhappy with. Their excuse was that they like to rotate dive guides (we didn’t necessarily buy that explanation). After requesting our old guide back we were reunited the next day.
Again they were very accommodating to requests.

Overall a very enjoyable experience.
