Comments This was my second trip on the Arenui, I was so impressed with the experience that I got on a waitlist for it. And I got on the boat, whole trip arranged by "GOTMUCK" out of Bali. From being picked up at the Denpasar airport, hotel in Bali, transport to the hotel, bags checked in, guided to the plane, transport to the boat etc all beautifully arranged by GOTMUCK.

This was primarily a muck photo trip and the diving lived up to its reputation. We had a few lectures from GOTMUCK that were very good, I had some private talks with photo pros that were super helpful, and underwater I got quite a bit of attention and help, dive guides were also very good. The whole staff on the boat is outstanding, they immediately learned what I needed, when and where. My special food requests were adressed the best I have ever seen.

The boat on the other hand needs a bit of TLC. It was a bit rough around the edges, needing some repairs and updates. My room had some plumbing issues, the towels and bedding felt a bit worn, one expects better for a boutique liveaboard. The camera space is very bad, really only private space for a couple of photographers. The GOTMUCK photographers did a wonderful job of shuffling space to be sure everyone kept track of their gear and the staff was very careful with the camera gear, rinse tanks good etc. The issue was lack of space. No one had their own personal areas so we had to be polite and get along which we did but it is nice to keep stuff in one place. There are several corners of the boat that could easily be converted to camera areas that were set up as fairly worthless "relaxation areas" and book shelves. Spaces in the cabins that were decorated by various artifacts would be better used for storage.

Many of us suspected that there was an issue with the expense of gas or something as we did not seem to move around as much as expected, staying in one area all day for 4 almost identical dives. However we did a fabulous side trip to an isolated island volcano for an evening eruption, spectacular experience!

The Arenui cruise directors seemed to be not very experienced with our ages and diving experience, keeping to a very demanding specific schedule with absolute directives of where to be and when. The intro to the boat was long and drawn out, briefings way too long, cutting into personal preparation for dives. They were nice but did not go out of their way to be overly friendly. Fortunately we had GOTMUCK with us and they provided all the fun we could have asked for.

The boat was due for dry dock and hopefully the plumbing issues and space issues will be resolved along with the shabby feel of the boat. It is supposed to be luxury and the boat itself fell short of luxury.
