Comments Amira was recommended by Dive Discovery, but we booked directly. Very easy to do so. It’s a great boat, well run, with fantastic crew/ people. Our group was 16 - many Swiss and Germans; a Brit, 5 Americans. We had 4 cruise directors- one main person, Noira, who is super organized. We were divided into 4 groups and dove with our group throughout. The dive guides rotated though, which was good. To avoid crowding on the dive deck, the groups start at staggered times. We dove 9 1/2 days; mostly 4 dives a day, but twice just 3, because we moved long distances. The Sorong to Sorong trip goes south to Misool, then works its way north- at Batanta we had muck diving. How often do you see a wonderpus and a mimic octopus 5 minutes apart? At other spots we saw Pygmy seahorses- so many we lost count. Several sites had wobbegongs- including swimming ones (looks awkward). Only Manta sighting was at Eagle’s Nest- not Magic Mountain. There are clouds of schooling fish at most sites. Lots of barracuda, many turtles.Bumphead parrotfish, and octopi were spotted at several sites.
This is a comfortable boat- rooms aren’t massive but large enough, with plenty of storage. Dive briefings were in the salon; we ate outside under shade unless raining- which wasn’t much. All in all, Raja Ampat is a diver’s dream.
