Comments [None]KOMODO AGGRESSOR REVIEW

On February 24, boarded the KA in Labuan Bajo for a 7 night trip venturing down to the southern Komodo area. The KA is a phinisi style boat with some improvements. Most of the cabins are on the lower deck accessible by a rather steep stairway. The meals are served both outside on the bow dining area and inside with A/C in inclement weather.

The dive stations are actually on the dive skiffs. The tanks are filled on the port side and stern of the boat then loaded on the skiffs where the gear is donned. After the dive, the gear is offed in the water and loaded on the skiffs. So divers enter and leave the skiffs without dive gear on. The usual nitrox fill was about 30%.

The food was primarily Asian with a made-to-order breakfast. Wine and beer are included.

13 divers were divided into 4 teams so no group had more than 4 divers. Each group had its own dive guide for the entire trip. The dive guides were very knowledgable regarding the dive sites and the dive briefings were quite thorough. After each dive, a crew member would rinse and hang wetsuits

The camera table is a counter that is next to the outdoor dining table with the battery charging station inside the salon/ indoor dining area.

The trip itinerary started with the islands west of Labuan Bajo then moving south to Padar and Rinca Islands. From there we dived south Komodo Island (Manta Island with ripping current; bring your reef hook!). Next, we dived the eastern side of Komodo and north Rinca visiting the Komodo National Park before returning to Labuan Bajo.

For most of the trip, the dive conditions were a bit challenging with water temps in mid 70’s and very low viz.

This was my third trip to the Komodo area and I did enjoy notwithstanding the dive conditions. However, my next dive sojourn to Indonesia will be to areas with warmer water and better viz.
