Comments May is a transition season so the conditions can be unpredictable. We had poor visibility on many dives and some sites had very strong currents. We saw hammerheads on most dives however we didn’t see the large schools of hundreds that draws divers to Cocos. The panga I was on saw the largest school of 40-50.

We saw many Galapagos sharks, white tips and the occasional tiger shark. We also saw 1 manta. The night dives are hard to explain, you have to see them to believe it. Large numbers of white tips going absolutely crazy in an all-out feeding frenzy. The night dives made for some great video.

We also encountered a bait ball towards the end of a dive and were lucky enough to see a large group of 20-25 dolphins, several tuna, many sharks and even birds diving into the water all going after the bait fish. I felt fortunate to see this.

The Okeanos Aggressor is showing its age and the cabins are small, however for me these are minor issues. The crew was professional, polite and took the time for some side trips to the island. The food was good and there was enough to keep me well fed.

Overall it was fun trip. Coco Island is a unique place both above and below the water. I would also recommend extending the trip so you can spend time on the mainland of Costa Rica, it is a beautiful country.
