Comments I did a 3 day cruise with Dive Ningaloo on "Lady Ningaloo" liveaboard. I would have done the longer 5 day cruise that was offered at other times but they did not align with my itinerary. The boat itself is not new - built for Barrier Reef non-dive cruises in the mid 1980s, but it has been extensively refitted for dive cruises. Facilities were not luxury but were comfortable enough. The accommodation rooms were on the same deck as diving area, with a non-carpeted hallway to the rooms which made access from the dive area easy.
Food was very high quality - the chef was French & this was reflected in the quality of meals & snacks provided between dives.
No assistance was provided by boat staff with putting on / taking off dive gear but this is not a standard practice on Australian Live-aboards, in my experience.
The first 2 dives were at the Muiron Islands, day 3 & the night dive were at Lighthouse Bay. Muiron Islands were the highlight - we had very calm conditions with resultant good visibility. Whalebone Reef on west side of South Muiron was an excellent site - very extensive soft coral growth although not huge amounts of fish life. Some interesting, uncommon nudibranches.
Eastern Bommies (on east side of Muirons) were excellent, healthy hard corals & more diverse tropical fish life than the west side. Mantas were seen at both dives at Eastern Bommies, including an incredible encounter with 4-5 on the second dive, 1 of which being an uncommon all-black manta.
Last day was spent at Lighthouse Bay, which is just at the tip of North West Cape, next to the Naval Communications Base. The night dive at Blizzard Ridge was very good, day dives at the same sight & 2 other sites in Lighthouse Bay were not to the same standard as Muiron Islands.
For divers on a smaller budget, Dive Ningaloo do day trips to both Muiron Islands & Lighthouse Bay. I would recommend Muiron Islands over the Ningaloo Reef area. I would have done a longer cruise to explore more of both areas.
