Unexpected Surfacing Makes for Prompt Action off the New Jersey Coast

When Captain Nick Caruso, owner of Ol' Salty II, saw his 61-year-old friend, John Morgan, with whom he had dived for two decades, surface unexpectedly from a 145-foot dive on the wreck of the navy cargo ship Algol, he and his crew acted quickly. They were 16 miles off Belmar, New Jersey, and Morgan was floating and unresponsive 25 minutes into the planned dive.

With a line attached to him and secured to the boat, crew member Frankie Cannarozzo jumped into the water, swam 200 feet to Morgan, got hold of him, and the crew pulled Cannarozzo and Morgan back to the boat....
