Comments First, I am a SSI Diamond Instructor Training Center owner and SSI Instructor Trainer, as well as a Platinum Pro 5000 Instructor, so my opinion comes from that perspective. I have trained some of the best divers and dive pros. I took 5 other divers on a group dive trip to Frederickstat, USVI to dive the wrecks of the bay and the pier. This was my third trip in 12 years, having spent two weeks in Cane Bay on the north side assisting with a PADI ITC and one family trip.

Coordinating the trip with the dive shop via email was very easy.
With that in mind let me share the first two dives of our 6-dive day-chartered group trip. I am accustomed to assembling my own dive kit but was told no they would do it for us. As I am getting back to the ladder, after making my dive buddy and wife of 57 years was safely on the boat), someone behind me says my tank is slipping. Feeling some tugging and pushing I assumed that they could correct the situation, so I climbed the ladder and realized the tank was held simply by the safety strap and the crew member assisting us onto the boat was the boat Captain, who did nothing to help until I got to my seat. I later complained and the response was that we only assemble it, divers are expected to check it before getting in the water. My response was since I assumed they had lots of experience assembling kits I assumed mine tank strap was tightened up properly after being given a soak first (which it wasn’t). I have never experienced a tank slipping. Teaching new OWDs we tell them to wet the BCD strap and never enter the water with a dry stra ... Subscribe to get the full story.
