Comments The Houston Underwater Photographic Society (HUPS) has now taken 3 trips, starting in 2015, to Virgin Gorda, BVI and dived with Dive BVI on all occasions with the most recent trip this past May 2019. Dive BVI set up the trip ( minus airfare) with Guavaberry Spring Bay Estates for the accommodations of between 13-15 divers and non divers on all occasions.Staying at Guavaberry is like returning to the old Caribbean with a definite slow down in the frenetic pace we now live.It is like returning to family. It has a commissary if one does not wish to go out to the Virgin Gorda restaurants. The snorkeling at the Guavaberry beach is great as it is just around the bend from the Baths, Devil's Bay and Spring Bay.

Dive BVI is probably the most efficient and courteous dive operation I have ever dived with anywhere in the world. They gave us 2 dive boats (two 36ft. Newtons) which contained the dive master, boat captain and 6 or 7 HUPS members with their underwater cameras and at the end of each day thoroughly cleaned our dive equipment and hung it up to dry for the next day's diving. They set up all our equipment an rechecked the Nitrox readings on each and every tank with the diver before the dives began. We dived 3 dives per day and did a night dive on the RMS Rhone which is one of the best night dives ever. The Rhone is also a great day dive and we did two day dives to acclimate ourselves to the night dive later. There is no wall diving in the BVI but the reefs appeared to be in good shape and the their were lots of the typical Caribbean tropical fish populations. We also saw sharks on every dive as the sharks were hoping that the dive master would spear any lion fish seen and they could pick up a free meal. The diving was very enjoyable. Everyone loved all trips and many have asked to return for a fourth trip. The trip cost included a pick up in the morning to go to breakfast at a local restaurant, breakfast, 2 dives in the morning, lunch at one of the many BVI island restaurants and a pickup and return to the Guavaberry Estates houses where each member was staying. I would highly recommend if you are on Virgin Gorda or Scrub island that one use Dive BVI as their dive operator.

We used the same jitney driver to pick us up for dinner to whatever restaurant we wished to go to each evening which was a separate cost from the Dive package.

All trips have been great and the islands are almost completely recovered from both Hurricane Irma and Maria. If you are a beach person, you cannot choose better beaches than those found on Virgin Gorda or anywhere in the BVI's.
