Comments We prefer shore diving and found a handful of easy shore diving sites. The Frederiksted Pier is highly recommended for good reason, with lots of every kind of underwater creature. Several dive shops within a block of the pier can rent you tanks and weights. One of them (N2theBlue) has carts to haul your gear to the entry, but their supply of locks to secure the carts is limited; throw a bicycle cable/lock into your luggage. Parking is not always abundant, but you’ll find something. The dive shops will hold your car keys for you.
Cane Bay and Northstar, about half a mile apart on the north shore, are good choices when the water is calm. Sweet Bottom Dive Center at Cane Bay is the place to rent tanks and weights. There is a bit of a swim-out, but it’s not that bad. People warn about a difficult entry at Northstar, but it’s perfectly manageable when the water is calm. Just go look. Davis Bay at the Carambola resort on the north shore is supposed to be a good shore dive, but access was denied, apparently until they’re done remodeling. I’m not quite sure what the story is there.
In general, visibility was mediocre, and locals said it's usually much better.
We found parking to be difficult to impossible in Christiansted, so for our north shore boat dive we chose Cane Bay Dive Shop because they use the Salt River Marina, which is easy to get to and has on-site parking. They took good care of us and it was a fun morning!
We stayed at a VRBO in the rain forest about 15 minutes from either Frederiksted or Cane Bay. There was no ocean view, but the rent was significantly lower for a very nice, quiet place.
The best grocery store is The Market STX on Centerline Road, east of Frederiksted. It also has a selection of wine, beer, and other alcoholic beverages. Prices were higher for some items, but reasonable for others.
We had a good experience renting a car from Budget.

Dive Experience 51-100 dives
Where else diving Curacao, Bonaire, Florida, Salt Cay TCI, Cayman Brac
Closest Airport STX Getting There Nonstop flights to/from Charlotte (CLT). Required a COVID test within the five days prior to the departure date. No test required to re-enter US.
U.S. citizens don’t need passports to travel to USVI, BUT there was a much shorter Customs line at the airport on departure for travelers who had their US passports on them!
