Comments Itinerary:
Day 1 - Flew into Seatac airport on Tuesday afternoon; picked up rental car and drove to Hoodsport. Checked into Glen Ayr.

Day 2 - Two morning dives at Sund Rock Marine Preserve. It's private property so you need to book in advance, [sundrock.com link]. Then boat dives with YSS Dive on their bigger boat, Miss Gig. Great captain/crew. They do morning two-tank dives and upon request can do two-tank night dives as well.

Day 3 - Morning dives with YSS on Miss Gig. Afternoon dives at Octo Hole.

Day 4 - Morning dives with YSS on their 4-pack, Saltwater Therapy. Night dives at Sund Rock (YSS books out Sund Rock on the first Friday of each month - book directly with YSS).

Day 5 - Morning and night dives with YSS on Saltwater Therapy.

Day 6 - Wind picked up so our morning dives were canceled.

Day 7 - Flew home.

Diving: YSS Dive is a wonderful charter. Friendly, helpful owners and staff. Next time if there are 3-4 of us we'd try to charter the 4-pack for 3-tank trip. There's a plethora of sites up and down the Hood Canal. Favorites include the sea mount, Fulton Creek (night dives) and Flagpole. Flagpole had a mama octo guarding her eggs and so many wolf eels.

Conditions: no swell, perfect conditions for boat diving. Visibility 15-30ft. Temps approx 49-54F / 9-12C

What we saw: GPOs, including a free-swimming octo at night hunting its dinner. Wolf eels. HUGE ling cod. Metridium fields. So many nudibranchs. Ratfish. Cloud sponges. Beautiful green water - there's a reason it's called the emerald sea!

Accommodations: I'd stay at Glen Ayr again when I go to Hood Canal. Three of us split the cottage, which was perfect - two bedroom plus pull-out couch in living room. Glen Ayr has dedicated, locked drying room for scuba gear right behind the cottage along with coin-op washer and dryer. Handy when we had a drysuit leak and one of us had to dry our undergarments. There's a "house reef" in front of Glen Ayr, which we didn't try this time. Too many other sites to visit!
