Comments Subtropic Dive Center & Harborside Motel & Marina 4/21/09

Dive shop was very accommodating letting us clean up in their in-store shower after last dive before heading north. Friendly staff. Convenient location with dive shop located dockside, boats right there. 32% nitrox pumped to 3100psi. Dove with Capt. James on the 30ft Pelican. Sociable, professional guy who gave good briefings. Boat was in good shape with DAN O2 kit, partial cover and adequate space for their advertised max number of divers (10), our trip went with seven. 187ft long Cayman Salvager – water temp 77’, vis about 60ft, slight currents on mooring line above 40ft, decent dive worth doing. Joes’ Tug and reef -just OK -vis 30ft. You need an Advanced card and recent deep dives to do the Cayman Salvager.

Harborside Motel & Marina:
Conveniently located right around the corner from the dive shop and an easy walk to Duval St. and the Mallory Square sunset scene, the Harborside Motel & Marina was just a little bit shabby. The rooms were slightly moldy and grubby and the place in general needed a fresh coat of paint. The $1 a bag ice machine was locked up with the front desk about 9:00 and the promised wake up call never came. All utilities functioned acceptably though. At $121per nt. including taxes the price was about avg. for this type of accommodation.
