Comments In Phoenix for business, I made a boat dive with Scubateers.com at Lake Pleasant, a man-made lake just 45 minutes north of Phoenix. I booked a Saturday afternoon boat dive on line. Scubateers could provide all gear, tanks and weights, however I had brought my dive gear with me. Rob of Scubateers e-mailed me directions to the 10 lane boat ramp. I got delayed due to construction on the highway, but Rob and one other diver were there at the boat ramp, waiting for me. What great service! Honestly I would not have expected Scubateers to run a charter for just two in these economic times. Thanks, Rob. Water was provided, a good thing in 100 degree F air temperatures. :-)

Rob chose a dive site based on my diving experience. We did a late afternoon dive, going out to a newly emerged island. (Lake levels fluctuate during the year by about 150 feet, so the levels were way down in September.) We did a dive along the drop-off, following ledges and shelves down to the thermocline which varied from 40 to 50 feet. Saw catfish, bass, bluegills and stripers hiding along the ledges. Bring a light, it gets dark down there.

Investigate local diving operators, you can find real gems.
