Comments This was a 2-tank morning trip on the Republic IV, one of Jupiter Dive Center’s two boats. JDC is a well-equipped and well-run scuba outfitter. We signed up and paid on-line, arrived early enough to sign waivers, showed our certification cards, confirmed our nitrox concentrations, and waited to board Republic VI. JDC has a nice shady space for waiting and socializing before boarding. There were about 10 divers on a boat that carries 28 tanks, so we had plenty of space. After the boat briefing, we exited the marina and motored through the Jupiter Inlet to the first dive site, about 25 minutes away. The Jupiter Wreck Trek has 3 artificial reefs - the Zion sunken freighter, Miss Jenny dredge barge, and Esso Bonaire tanker, at depths between 80 and 90 feet. Visibility was terrible, but we saw a few Goliath groupers, hogfish, and grunts and snappers. There was a moderate north current, typical for this edge of the Gulf Stream, so we spent about 10 minutes at Zion and Miss Jenny, with slow drifts from one to the next. We spent more time on Esso Bonaire because of its size and relief.
After a 50-minute surface interval, the second dive was at Loggerhead Reef Ledge, a bit shallower at 70 feet. The Reef Ledge is less than 10 feet of sea floor relief, but it has cracks and crevices for fish to hide. There were abundant fish at this dive site, mostly snappers and grunts, and a school of Atlantic spadefish. We did not see any loggerhead turtles on this day trip. I did REEF fish surveys and recorded 30 species at the Wreck Trek and 34 species at the Ledge. It was a very good day.

UW Photo Comments There are likely macro subjects on the wrecks, but I did not see them this trip. Visibility was terrible, my Goliath grouper photo is a looming shadow in the murk. There is a fresh water camera bucket on the boat deck.
