Comments This was a 2-tank afternoon dive from Jupiter Inlet to 2 frequently-visited dive sites in the Atlantic. Jupiter Dive Center is an efficient, well-run operation with 2 identical boats, Republic IV and Republic VII. Nitrox is available, 36% this day. We dived Captain Kirli’s and Spadefish Point. Water temperature was 79°F (nice for February), visibility was 25-50 feet (typical for this place), and there was a moderate north current (typical for this west edge of the Gulf stream).
Entry is by giant stride off the stern platform, and re-boarding is via 2 ladders.
I did REEF fish-ID surveys, and recorded two loggerhead turtles, one lemon shark, many spadefish, a midnight parrotfish, and moderate numbers of the usual chubs, damselfish, grunts, snappers, surgeonfish, and wrasses.
The time to dive Jupiter is late summer when the Goliath groupers arrive for their spawning aggregation.
Jupiter is north of the natural range for pretty corals, so it is not as magical as the Florida Keys used to be. Jupiter is also a lobstering and spearfishing destination. Jupiter Dive Center is careful to put the spear fishers in the water at some distance from the non-spear fishers.
And while you’re here around Jupiter, also dive Blue Heron Bridge.
