Comments We (my wife and I) went on the Blue Heron Bridge dive with Jim Abernethy as a very small part of a drive to Florida from Chicago. It was easy to set up and turned out to be a great dive. The diving occurs at specific times related to the tides. You go in as high tide is reaching its high, stay an hour and a half, and head back as the tide heads back out. At least when we went, it was not very crowded. We saw a great variety of critters with good visibility. We saw pipefish, crabs, starfish, scorpion fish, lobster, filefish, puffers, a seahorse, angelfish, shrimp, rays, flounder, and probably others things that I don't remember.
The dive is shallow, maybe 25 feet. The tide current keeps the viz good. Overall a much better dive than we expected.
Since we had not done this dive, we went with a guide from Abernethy's. That made it a better dive an was worth it. We would have had more issues finding the best way in and the limits of the dive area without the guide. In addition, she pointed out some of the creatures we missed.
