Comments We visited Islamorada for a quick summer getaway, with my wife and two boys (17 & 11). The boys had spearfishing on their agenda and that's how we selected Islamorada. Eric Billips owns the shop and wrote the PADI book on spearfishing. Unfortunately, after weeks of beautiful weather, a system moved in while we were there and the winds were blowing. Every day was an adventure and I would say at least half the divers were seasick each day. My wife gave it a try on the first day and that was it for her. My boys and I dove 4 days. Visibility was fair at best due to the conditions. However, this worked in our favor and we scored hogfish on every dive. Eric and his crew were terrific and very attentive in the conditions. They made the trip fun for my boys and they had a blast. My 17 y.o. and I dove the Eagle one morning and that was definitely a highlight. I will consider that the Keys are not the Carribean next time, and realize that my wife wants it FLAT! But I will take my kids back down there to do some spearfishing with Eric again for sure.
