Comments We wanted to get a sense of what cave diving was all about, but we weren't physically, emotionally, or financially prepared to take an Into to Cave course. So we came to the springs to satisfy our cave-curious-itch by diving the caverns that are available to open water divers.

There aren't many.

We started with Ginnie Ballroom, incorrectly assuming that we could spend time in the cavern and then burn the rest of our gas exploring the spring basin for fish and turtles and frogs.

The flow exiting the grated-off cave opening inside the cavern was so intense that we were being pushed into walls and were forced to break (what I thought was) a written-in-stone rule: touching the cavern floor in order to maintain our position.

Closest Airport Jacksonville, FL Getting There We attended a wedding in South Carolina before the trip, so we flew into Savannah and rented a car from there. Then we drove to High Springs. Other than the usual issues of how to pack dive gear and camera equipment and clothes for fall/winter and necessities, we had no problems.
