Comments We went in May, 2009. What a nice time! This was our second time on Salt Cay. It is the place that time forgot. Debbie (the owner of the dive shop) got us some food so that we could cook but we had no issues eating at her restaurant/ bar or at Ms. Pat's, a local home/ restaurant. Island Thyme was closed since it was close to summer (sigh). We were also able to pick up food to cook ourselves. Debbie would pick us up in her truck every day to take us to the dive shop.

Diving here is VERY mellow. We were diving with another couple and the four of us were the only ones on our boat. We discussed dive sites with the dive masters (both excellent) and they took us wherever it was best. Our profiles were until we ran out of air! We were sometimes down for > 1 hour. Depths were reasonable. You could go down to > 100 feet but we were happy in the mid-depths. Lots of the usual caribbean flora. Unfortunately, lots of Lionfish. We saw at least 8 over 3 days. No big fish and we were late for whales.

Another point is that the dive boat docks by the restaurant. We would order lunch between the first and second dives. We always had a good lunch and home baked key lime pie.

A small caveat. If you crave excitement, this is not the place to be. Population < 100. TV and internet is intermittent. However, for us, the combination of a very mellow place to stay and customized diving was very comforting. We will come back again.
