Comments Reef Divers is an excellent company with a fine safety record and skilled dive guides and support staff. East Bay's dive operation appeared to be a shoe string operation with only 2 boats and shifting cast of dive guides. We had a terrific dive guide in Jon and dive guide Ethan was widely respected and liked by the divers on the other boat. However, there is no backup staff nor backup dive boat, so there's no margin for error. A boat grounding the next week after our visit put this to the test.

Unoccupied parts of the resort is being remodeled. Our room was a former condo, spacious and nice, kitchen, washer/dryer. Resort grounds are quite nice, beach is gorgeous and we enjoyed our stay very much. This is a good thing, as South Caicos has little else to offer. You should like an isolated resort without night life outside, since South Caicos is largely undeveloped. Minimal shopping, groceries, anything really.

Resort staff is superbly service oriented and friendly. Wind was very common and produces lots of chop and difficult boarding conditions despite the "valet diving" model of staff assistance.

Lots of eagle rays, sting rays, white tips and nurse sharks, but fewer reef fish of the most common types. January cold water required 5mm and vests for many.

Uncrowded resort (50% occupancy), well run and pleasant but major growth is planned and dive operations seem a small part of a major hotel in future. Enjoyed the resort, but a large scale expansion may change it too much for this older diver. Not sure resort will be compatible with the small, budget air terminal without service and limited aircraft size.
