Comments Our family of 10 (6 divers and 4 snorkelers) enjoyed 2 private charters with Dive Provo and they were wonderful. Our divers varied from 16 logged dives to 1538 so the experience was there to monitor all closely if needed. Jon Ward, one of the co owners whom we had met diving with Brendals in 2008 and 2009 was wonderful as was his staff of Vasily and Mary Ann. We wanted to dive with grandkids( one certified) and hoped the other three would get the “bug” to do so and they did.
We took a cab and van cross island ( 15 minutes) to Caicos Marina and Shipyard ) to board. The boat was very nice and had excellent safety equipment. We made 2 dives each day and saw reef sharks, grouper, triggers with only 1 lionfish seen. The first day was to West Caicos and second to Northwest Point. The viz was >100 feet off the wall and 70-80 around the boat. The coral was pretty good, but not as great as 20 years ago, just as about everywhere else. The small “ stuff” was really good and included helmet head sea slugs, tiny skeleton shrimp, anemones shrimp and crabs in a purple anemone, etc. Jon is superb at finding the “small stuff”. The Nitrox was a consistent 32%. We really enjoyed the lunch on board and the entire experience was wonderful.
We stayed at the Alexandra Resort which was top notch. The airport PLS is about absolute chaos. Renting a van with Hertz was a headache waiting in line an hour after siting at the airport to be picked up by the Hertz shuttle in the rain for 30+ minutes. Left side driving with NASCAR wannabes in round abouts is interesting to say the least.
We would certainly return, but I would look at traveling any day but Saturday., but likely not feasible. Having a family vacation diving with your kids (2) and grandkids cannot be topped! We would absolutely return to dive with Dive Provo again.
