Comments Our annual educational dive group made a trip to T&C in November. Our plans changed in Spring and we were lucky to find room for our group of 30. Lots of airlines fly in to Provo but flights can be unreliable. The airport itself is a mess. Crowded, inefficient and hot. Reminds me of 3rd world countries. The island is pretty in a Caribbean way. Our hotel was clean and largely comfortable although AC reliability was an issue. Breakfast included. Rooms are decent and ring a pool. Mini fridge included. The resort was about a 5-10 min walk to the beautiful Grace Bay beach. Shuttle also available. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Good grocery across the parking lot for food/beverages. We found many of the island staff to be somewhat indifferent/sullen to tourists which is odd for an island dependent on tourism. The island itself is very expensive. It's hard to find a simple/cheap meal.
Dive Provo seems to be a well run operation. They were not terribly flexible at times. Their stateside office helped with arrangements which was a big help. Because there are essentially no docks on Grace Bay diving is done from the marina. Each day involves a taxi from hotel to/from marina. Because the marina is on central south side the result is 1 hour+ boat ride to virtually all dive sites. If there are swells/chop this can be brutal and even on smooth days this adds 2 hours to the day. No shore dives or night dives. Boats are modern but smallish. Max 15 divers. Some cover from sun is available. Boats had marine heads, fresh water showers and seemed to be in good shape. Water/snacks provided. Boat staff was friendly and helpful. Very willing to help with gear, entry/exit etc. TJ, John, Will and Shaina took good care of us. Dive sites were in rough shape - lots of bleaching/dead coral. Water too warm. Visibility was OK not great. Mostly wall dives and profiles seem to be on the deeper side. There were decent fish spotted, lots of sharks and some turtles. Locations are determined by mooring balls, some of which are damaged or missing. Diving does not seem to be a big priority to the government. Hopefully that improves in the future.
