Comments Rather than submitting a review extolling the diving in St Vincent (see other reader reports) I would like to offer a few tips about visiting this out-of-the-way Caribbean destination. For photos, visit [davidinman.smugmug.com link]
1. There is no nitrox. The dive operations are very competent but they are old-school and offer air only. The diving is the mostly shallow (<70ft) so bottom times are not an issue.
2. There are few big animals. The island is a haven for macro photographers and critter-lovers, but if you are looking for sharks, you will be disappointed.
3. At last, there are direct flights to the island. For many years, the only way to fly to St. Vincent was through Barbados. Nowadays, with the new Argyle airport, there are direct flights from New York, Miami and Toronto.
4. The volcano is listed as active. La Souffiere erupted with a large ash cloud in 2020. However the resort area is on the other end of the island and was not affected
5. Land excursions are available - Fort Charlotte, the Vermont Nature Trails, La Souffiere, and the first Botanical Garden in the western hemisphere (established in 1765).
6. A visit to St Vincent is a flashback to Caribbean diving like it used to be. No all-inclusive resorts, no crowds, no hassles, and abundant marine life.

UW Photo Comments If you are a macro photographer, you will be impressed by the rare and unusual animals that are routinely found here. Whether this is due to the black volcanic sand, the relative low number of divers, or the geographical location, one thing is certain - the marine ecosystem is pristine. Be warned that you are on your own in terms of camera maintenance and repair. . Bring a small tool kit, spare parts, batteries, etc. There is no help on the island if you have camera issues.
