Comments Kenneth founded Kenneth Dive Center over 40 years ago. He is very knowledgeable regarding the ocean, the sites and what to expect to find. We dove 5 mornings, two tank dives each day. It was off-season, so we were often the only folks on the boat. His boat has everything necessary to dive, so there is no stopping at the shop to rent equipment, get sized for a wetsuit, etc. It is all there so you can decide what you want while motoring out to the dive site. The boat is large and most of it is covered. There is no food or towels, but he supplied water. Kenneth's cell phone number is posted at his shop and is on the shop's answering machine so you can contact him anytime to discuss possible dive trips.

He picked us up at the Marriott Resort in a bus, it was about a 5 minute drive to his boat. One day he had one diver from a cruise ship so his boat was at the cruise ship dock, which was about 15 minutes from the Marriott.

The crew is very helpful, friendly and courteous. There were 4 crew members on the boat, even though some days we only had 5 of us diving. Some of us left our equipment on the boat (we had 5 people with full equipment who did) and it was setup when we came back to dive. Every dive had a guide in front and Kenneth following to make sure nobody got lost.

The visibility was not wonderful, 20-60 feet on various days at various sites. However, Kenneth knew exactly where to find critters such as sea horses, grass eels, lobsters, small moray eels, etc. There were no large ocean-dwelling creatures such as manta rays, whales, large sharks, etc. We observed LOTS of very large lobsters and several small sharks.

Kenneth was very receptive to requests such as "can we dive some wrecks?". When asked, the next stop would be a wreck.

In short, while the diving was not as wonderful as other places I have dove, the boat, crew and owner were exceptional.

Note: There were large numbers of Lion Fish everywhere. Kenneth likes to eat them so, when there was only a few of us on the boat, and after he determined we were experienced divers, we speared lion fish for food.

The Marriott is a wonderful resort. There are several restaurants, some relatively inexpensive, some very expensive. The food on the island is generally expensive, stores are a 15-20 minute drive away and are not very well-stocked and cost significantly more than the US mainland. There were several reasonable and good restaurants a 10-20 minute slow walk away from the resort. During the entire week we were there the trade-winds blew, which made the heat tolerable as long as you were in the wind.

Some of the folks in our group when on a walking tour (which turned out to be a strenuous hike) of the tropical rain forest on the island. They enjoyed it very much. Other than that we did not explore the island much and did not do any shopping at the cruise ship terminal so I do not have any input to offer regarding shopping deals or other activities.

There is a large casino on the Marriott property.

Thanks for your review. I'm staying at the Marriott in Jan. 2013 for a week after a week on the Caribbean Explorer II liveaboard. I was planning on diving with Kenneth, but hadn't seen a recent review.
