Comments Malapascua requires a little effort to get to, with a 4 hour drive from Cebu City to Maya, from where local boats depart for the 30 minute transfer to the island. The place is famous for its Thresher Shark sightings at Monad Shoal. We were not disappointed, with multiple sightings - some quite close (unusual for these skittish animals) on the two occasions we went. It was well worth a 4AM wake up to enable joining these dives. Gato Island day-trip offered an attractive swim-through dive. Another day trip to Calanggaman marine reserve was also worthwhile. At Lighthouse, a local dive-site we had a night dive with mating mandarin fish. The only disappointing dive was at the Tapilon WW2 wreck. Broken up, poor visibility, little life. It was twinned with the Gato Island dive.

Marianne and Dino at TSD were accommodating and arranged the transfers to the island from Cebu City. Their operation does a lot of professional training, so trainee divemasters often accompanied the divemasters on the dives.

Tepenee resort is simple but elegant and offers excellent value. Angelina's restaurant next door does excellent pizzas in the wood fired over.

I highly recommend the above operations for a 4-5 day stay that can be combined with other locations near Cebu.
