Comments The Sipalay area doesn't have quite the world class diving to be found in some of the better known Visayan destinations like Dumaguete or Moalboal, but this is a great place to relax as part of a diving tour of the Philippines. It's an unspoiled, Shangri-La location on Sugar Beach near Sipalay on the west coast of Negros, with the feel of a remote, Robinson Crusoe island--not really an island but it has to be reached by banca. No cars, no noise, a great beach with very few tourists.

It's a small resort, very laid back, with friendly Swiss ownership and management. What's unique is the clever and creative design of the (unumbered) rooms, each different and each based on a nostalic 1970s rock theme.

The diving is easy--little current and not very deep. The corals seemed healthy with plenty of fish. There's a picturesque shallow wreck (Julian's Wreck) they visit all the time, and also a wreck at 40 m. which I haven't done on either of my visits. It's all boat dives, with fairly short rides. The dive guides at the resort were a European couple, a Scot and a German, very friendly and competent.

Closest Airport Dumaguete or Bacolod Getting There Lots of flights to either airport (Dumaguete and Bacalod are about the same distance but in opposite directions), but from there you need a taxi to get to the resort (about 3 hours driving), and the last leg is by boat courtesy of the resort. They will also arrange the car.
