Comments I recently took a 6-day Dive Safari with Easy Diving in Sipalay Philippines, known as the Visayas Safari https://sipalay.com/dive-safaris/. As much I would love to recommend this trip because the diving was fantastic, I can’t because of so many issues with Easy Diving and their operation. A dive safari is like a hybrid between a live-aboard and diving off a day boat. During our 6-day safari we stayed at three different resorts (2-days, 2-days and 1-night). Travel days between resorts were very long days and started at 6 am. Our first day we didn’t arrive at the resort until after 830 pm. Dive days consisted of 3-dives per day except on the two nights when we stayed at the same resorts and a night dive was offered (which I didn’t partakes in).

The dive safari offered a wide variety of diving in marine parks including macro diving, muck diving, wall dives and drift dives. The diving was spectacular if you love macro, beautiful corals and sponges and in most places an abundance of tropical fish. If you were looking for big stuff, on only one day did we see sharks and the day they said they were 99% sure we’d see whale sharks there were none to be found. But to be fair no one controls what you’ll see.

The boat, called the Roya, was a traditional bangka, an outrigger boat equipped with bamboo outriggers that provided excellent stability. The Roya was setup to be a day boat for a few hours, not for 12-14 hour trips where you spend 90% of your day on the boat. It had a dining table on the main deck that could accommodate 6 guest and an uncomfortable upper deck that accommodated 6 guests. The upper deck dining area had no air flow, so it was extremely uncomfortable in the Philippine sun to sit in. Only one person took their meals on the upper deck. The rest of the passengers had to rotate among themselves to use the dining table. There were no other chairs on the boat to sit on other than the dining tables. The outriggers had netting so you could sit/lay on them, and 4-5 foam cushions were available to lie on, but with 12-passengers it was not possible for everyone. The upper deck also had a sun deck, but because it was so hot the sun deck was useless. A tarp roof and some bean bag chairs would have made this area so useful, but I not sure the owner is interested in the comfort of the guest. One of the guests said he saw a picture of the boat at a travel/scuba expo in Germany and it showed a tarp over th ... Subscribe to get the full story.
