Comments Our visit to Puerto Galera was part of a longer trip that included diving in Okinawa and sightseeing in central Japan and Manila. We chose Puerto Galera because of its reputation for good reef diving and the fact that it can be reached by ground transportation from Manila. We spent nine nights at Scandi Divers. Both Puerto Galera and Scandi turned out to be excellent choices for our first trip to the Philippines.

We booked Scandi by email and WhatsApp. The staff could not have been any more helpful or responsive during the booking process. That made planning the Philippines diving portion of our trip easy.

To reach Scandi, one takes ground transportation from Manila (a two- or three-hour ride depending on traffic) and then a shuttle boat to Puerto Galera. Scandi handled all of our transportation arrangements. They offer multiple options depending on one’s budget and preferences. All of our transportation worked as planned except for a last-minute adjustment to our departure time due to a passing cyclone. That required us to leave the resort earlier than we had originally planned on our departure day to make sure that we had plenty of time to get to the Manila airport.

Closest Airport Manila Getting There We dove Okinawa first. We then flew China Airlines from Okinawa to Manila changing planes in Taipei. For our return, we flew Zipair from Manila to Tokyo and then on to San Fransisco after spending some time sightseeing in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka.
