Comments After 20 dive trips Palau, and 10 dive trip to Indonesia, someone asked why I haven't gone to the Philippines. Good question. A diver master from the Rock Island Aggressor suggested Scandi Divers in Puerta Galara. One of the former dive masters on the Rock Island Aggressor is Sales Manager at Scandi Divers.
My group consisted of 3. We were met at the Manilla airport and transported to Batangas Port to catch a private ferry to Scandi Divers Resort front door. Transports were arranged by Scandi Divers.
At the resort, we were met at the Scandi Divers resort by management, dining and dive crew and the owner. They helped us setup dive gear and went for a afternoon check off dive. The camera rooms clean and well organized. There are plans to make the camera room larger. I was the only diver with a camera for a few days.
Scandi Divers is a teaching resort for open water classes.
The night dives were the best I have done. The crew washed and cleaned our gear every evening. Armon had our tanks ready for Nitrox check, dive gear setup in the morning. Nitrox is not mixed on site. The crew had to go get nitrox from another site. Our gear and camera equipment was well take care of. The dining and dive crew went over and beyond to make our trip enjoyable. During our 9 day stay, we had one dive master, Larry. Larry could see the smallest of creatures. I have seen more octopi on this trip than I have seen in 20 years of diving. We had a long list of things we want to see. Larry found all but the hairy frog fish. He wrote everything down on a white slate. He knew both common name and latin name. We are coming back to find the hairy frog fish.
Our trip to Venti Island was amazing with large number schooling fish, frog fish, orrangatang crab, butterfly, angelfish, including the Juvenile Emperor Angelfish.
If you don't have your gear, Scandi divers has well maintained, good dive gear to rent.
Food was made to order, even for the pickiest eater. The daily smoothie was a treat. Happy hours from until 7pm, 2 for the price of one.
I recommend taking a lot of cash($500+) for tips and souvenirs. There is a 5% service fee for using credit card. Cash advance on a credit card is 11% plus 5%. Also, flying in a day early to exchange money at a bank in Manilla..
There are many dive operations and resorts in Puerto Galara. We were lucky to find Scandi Divers.
