Comments We spent 2 weeks at Mike's. It spolied us for the rest of the Philippines diving, it was basically concierge diving - we were not looking for that, but have to admit it was nice. The hardworking crew brought your gear to the boat, set it up and broke it down, and rinsed it at the end of each trip. Tip your crew!!

On the boat, they helped you on with your gear, including fins. Reboarding they removed your fins in the water, hauled your BC up...you just had to climb the ladder.

The boat had outriggers, which made it less rocky. You board from the shore up a gangway made of plywood, holding on to a bamboo handrail, held by 2 crew members. There is a head onboard. Trips to dive sites were from 5 minutes to 45 miuntes to Apo Island. We did one dive at Coconut Point at Apo. Strong current drift dive, coral was like Disneyland. Colors off the chart. Sad we blew right past the, but that is probably why they are so pristine

We dove with DM Ace, and he is aptly named. He was great at finding critters, and once he understood that my wife needed his liight for her photos, he was right there. (We left some gear behind after reading the various aitline weight restrictions, which in our experiece on maybe 6 different flights and 3 airlines, no one was enforcing. But do not rely on my observation!)

Ace understood after a trying current dive that we did not enjoy current, so built that into his planning. He also worked to fix a reg problem we had, long story but wife's reg was leaking (though serviced in US 1 month before).

Two basic dive profiles, Apo Island, and muck. Muck was great, after a few dives it became easier to spot tiny things. Ace found a juvenile frogfish that was maybe 2mm? Amazing. Lots of frogfish.

The room was good, not fancy but functional and clean, a/c. There was a dying rack outside the front door, "spacious". They encourage you to use their laundry service, probably a good idea, but I am picky about my clothes, don't want certain things in a dryer, etc. We got by fine washing small batches in the sink.

The onsite restaurant is very good. Strength is Filipino food. American options OK. Mexican, no. The staff is the most attentive we have had in the Philippines, and this is not trivial. We have been to 6 areas so far, and though supposedly English is a thing here, we have gotten a lot of smiles that mean "no idea what you want". Not a crticism, just an observation. We live in Mexico and work hard on culture and language. I do not understand the Philippines.

Two observations. It would be hlepful if the restaurant/bar had you sign a slip at each visit, so you have a chance of tracking what you are spending. Price are very fair, so no issue, but after 2 weeks it would be nice to know as you go what you are spending versus one (accurate) bill at the end.

And old guy comment, the ladder back up the dive boat could use 1-2 more rungs.

Would go back to Mike's in a heart beat. Great spot. Great people. Great experiennce. Thanks!
