Comments Captn Gregg was not my first choice, but Atlantis was booked out and Marco Vincent did not reply to my emails. Chuck, Captn Gregg's owner was prompt and succinct in his communications. His dive operation was a good choice. Unlike most other operators, he uses flat bottomed boats that are quick and easy to board and re-board. Big Boy who has worked with Chuck for over 26 years was assigned to the two of us exclusively and was most accommodating. If he had any failings it would be his touchy feely attitude towards the marine life. (One poor octopus was alarmed enough to discharge his ink when Big Boy tried to grab him to pull him out of his crevice.) But overall I was very pleased with the dives he lead us on. A private charter to Verde Island (extra Php4000 for the boat) was well worth it. Very fishy sites (though nothing bigger than one foot). But even close to the resort we enjoyed very healthy coral gardens.

We had originally booked our stay at Captn Gregg's but chose to check out after the first night. Like the Atlantis Resort next door, it is fronted by a smelly harbour and located right by the sleazy girlie bars of Sabang and the sight of the lobster red (mostly Aussie) pensioners with their teenage Filipino girlfriends was a little depressing. Chuck's posted accommodation 'rules' attested to disturbing experiences with his lodgers. Luckily, just 15 minutes walk away was the much pleasanter La Laguna Beach Club with a sandy beach and outdoor pool area. At $110, the deluxe rooms were well worth it. Although La Laguna also offers diving, we were happy to continue diving with Cptn Gregg.

Sabang is one of two tourist resort areas equidistant from Puerto Galera. Whereas Sabang is quite sleazy, another option is White Beach which has a wide sandy beach and is more popular with Filippino families and actually much more fun. Marco Vincent Resort is located there. I would be tempted to stay there next time.
