Comments After arrival in Manila it takes another 4 h by car and a short trip by boat to reach Buceo Anilao Dive Resort. Helpful staff will assist with the usual paper work and helps you to your bungalow. All bungalows are lined up on a rather steep slope. Depending were your bungalow is on the slope you have to climb more or less stairs to reach it. If you are not good on foot I would recommend to chose a bungalow in the lower part. The best views however offer the rooms on the upper part of the slope. There are different categories of bungalows. We had a deluxe one which was spacious and air conditioned. From our balcony we had a beautiful view to the west and could enjoy colorful sunsets every evening. There is also a small swimming pool on the slope with some beach chairs which tends to get occupied very fast in the afternoon. There is only a rubble beach in front of the resort where normally the diving boats wait for the guests.
Food was ok. They offer a mixture of western and philippine cuisine. In March is mango season. So we all the time had excellent deserts with fresh mangos.
The dive shop of the resort ist pretty good organized. During most dives we had a dive guide for ourselves. These guys know the area and the critters very well. You can basically order what you want to see: Rhinopias, Tiger & Harlequin Shrimps, many, many frogfish, Mimic Octopuses and many and rare nudibranchs. For Macro-Photographers this is certainly a kind of heaven. The camera room is rather small and unfortunately not air conditioned. You better carry your camera gear up stairs and keep it in your air conditioned bungalow. Humidity in the camera room is definitely too high to store your camera gear there.
There are also basins where you can water your gear after the dive.
Most dive spots are 15 to 30 minutes away. The coral dive spots near the islands in front are about an hour boat drive away. Visibility was between 10 and 20 meters. Water temperatures in March were quite low. I was all the time freezing in my (old) 5mm wetsuit. Our computers showed 24-25 °C.
Buceo Anilao was very crowded in March. So I would recommend to avoid the easter holidays there. The dive staff did its best but there were just too many divers sitting and standing around in the diving area. Wetsuits got lost or were taken by other confused divers. So all the time people were wandering around in search of missing gear.
