Comments Atlantis Puerto Galera delivered a very pleasant experience for my first trip to the Philippines. The resort is located in Sabang, on the boardwalk along dozens upon dozens of other dive shops - Sabang is packed with dive shops. The staff at Atlantis was super friendly, gracious, and professional. The food was excellent, and I mean really, really good. The chef happens to also be a diver and photographer - not only does he run an excellent kitchen, but he has a keen eye and takes amazing photos; I had the opportunity to dive with him and he pointed out of lot of things that made it into my final video.

My room was adequate. The A/C worked as did the hot water for the shower - the essentials of 'adequate'. The dive facilities are excellent. There are plenty of rinse tanks for gear and cameras, lots of space to hang gear between dives and a really large camera room with 120V&210V charging outlets.

The diving was a mixed bag. I seem to be cursed and bad visibility follows me. My first full day of diving we went to Verde Island, which had the potential for wonderful colorful corals - but the viz limited my ability to capture that beauty. Near the resort, most of the dive sites were only a couple of minutes away. These closer dive sights offer chances to see turtles and nudibranchs. The Alma Jane wreck is also close by with a max depth of 30 meters. I filmed a nice school of spade fish hanging out at the bow.

Another "interesting" dive is the Canyons dive, which offers some ripping currents and finishes near an old Spanish anchor. My dive there definitely delivered on the ripping current, but the low viz obscured the corals and fish that we might have otherwise seen along the way... my reef hook paid off when we stopped at one spot to observe a small school of fish. Overall, the diving was decent, with the highlight being the macro life. Even with lower visibility, finding and filming these little critters is a real joy; in one dive spot we found 5 sea horses within a few meters.

The water was a bit chilly my week there - ranging from 76-78F. I am always cold so was glad to have my heated vest on this trip, and I also double hooded.

In summary, the resort provides a quality experience, with friendly and professional staff. The diving is good, and has potential to be excellent with better weather and visibility.
