Comments I did the 10 night Ultimate Visayas Safari in Nov. The Atlantis Azores has 8 cabins to accommodate 16 divers. The boat is comfortable but dated and in need of some cosmetic work. My husband and I stayed in the owners suite, it is roomy with plenty of storage space. It is the only guest cabin that is on the upper deck. The other divers seemed content with the below deck cabins with the exception of the 2 men who booked as singles. Their shared cabin was small with little storage space. Shower stalls (even in the owner’s suite) were small and have shower gel and shampoo. No hair conditioner.

The food was good, but not great. Plenty of variety. First breakfast is a light breakfast that includes yogurt, cereal, toast, and fresh fruit. Breakfast after the first dive is eggs to order with different side plates each day, such as pancakes, muffins, bacon. Breakfast and lunch are served family style, dinner is one of three options, served plated. A self serve coffee machine makes espresso, lattes, cappuccino. Snacks are served between most dives.

The staff are hardworking, friendly and take very good care of the guests. The vibe on the boat is relaxed and positive.

Now for the good stuff. The diving was excellent. We did both reef and muck diving which made for a good balance and kept things interesting. Some of the marine life I enjoyed seeing: pipefish, frogfish, sardine bait balls, long fin spade fish, carpet sharks, sea kraits, cuttlefish, turtles, nudis, rock mover wrass, bird wrass, octopus and a tornado swirl of jacks. The amount and varieties of beautiful butterfly fish were remarkable.

We did two dives at a thresher shark cleaning station where several thresher sharks swam about and made the divers happy. For one dive we went to an area close to shore where whale sharks are fed each morning by fishermen. There were many snorkelers on the surface but not too many divers underwater. We were able to hang out at a shallow depth, relax and get an excellent view of the whale sharks coming and going.

Battery charging station on the main deck. A member of the crew was on duty during the night.

This was my second trip aboard the Azores. In March 2023 I did the Tubbataha itinerary, it was good but I saw more in the Visayas.
