Comments This was a transition trip on the Philippine Aggressor II. They were moving the boat from Puerto Princesa to Cebu. This was a 10 day charter and they do the reverse in the fall. We started the trip by diving the Tubbataha Reefs National Parks (a UNESCO World Heritage site). We then continued to Cogayanillo which is an excellent dive site because is is rarely visited by divers. The only way do dive these islands is on a transition trip. From there we continued on to APO Island and then worked our way north towards Cebu.

This trip has an incredible amount of sea life both in numbers and variety. Most of the life here is on the small side. We did see a few sharks and but for the most part, large pelagic were rare. There was a massive amount of smaller sea life and this location is great for macro photography.

The boat and crew were excellent. Food was plentiful and very good. Breakfast and lunch were buffet style, dinner was plated and served. The Philippines Aggressor II is a brand new boat and I was on the third charter. The boat is very spacious and has plenty of room to spread out.

Diving is done from rigid inflatables and we always had a dive guide. There is a camera table on the dive deck, However it is a bit small and can get crowded if there are several photographers onboard. The dive deck is spacious with wet and dry storage bins but it may get crowded if the boat is full.

The transition trip is a great way to see a large variety of dive sites. Because it is a transition trip and a large distance must be covered, much time is spent traveling to the next site. This results in less diving than you would have on a similar length trip. I did 29 dives on this 10 day trip. Night diving is limited because it is not allowed in Tubbataha. Of my 29 dives, only 3 were night dives. Because of the long travel times between sites, we had more time to relax and if you are a photographer, more time to work on your photos.

A safety briefing was conducted shortly after boarding the boat. Life jackets and fire extinguishers are located in each cabin as well as the Muster Station (dive deck). Glow-in-the-dark placards indicate life jacket locations and arrows on the baseboards indicating the escape route. Battery charging is not allowed in cabins, only in specified locations. A night watchman is on duty at all times.

UW Photo Comments The cameral table is a bit small for a boat of this size. Compressed air and towels are available to dry equipment. Plenty of room inside the salon to work on photos.
