Comments This my 2nd trip to Kimby bay [1st - Fe Brina 2009], 1st to Walindi. A little bit of an adventure getting here, but the facility and diving were worth it.

1st - I wish to thank Walindi and the SeaSave [[ link]] organization. Walindi donated a week with food and diving to SeaSave; they auctioned it; I bid $1,600; I was the only bidder. Also paid a little less for a week on the Truk Odyssey. I was able to setup the trip for a little less that $3,000 including transportation from HNL. Do it again, I'll bid.

Given the price I paid, this trip was fantastic. The resort was comfortable, food plentiful and tasty and the diving interesting and easy.

Walindi Plantation Resort is a dive resort situated on the shores of Kimbe Bay on the island of New Britain, Papua New Guinea. It takes a few flights and a van ride to get there. It is part of a Copra plantation, carved out of he jungle on the shore. I stayed in a traditional, thatched roof bungalow along the shore with rainforest on the other 3 sides. Very comfortable, nice place to sit on the lanai and watch the sunset.

The main facility & restaurant are air conditioned. Mostly, we ate outside. Dishes were varied and well prepared. Had a bar-b-q night with some of the local kids performing for us. Nice...

Diving support is top shelf. Once I set my gear up the first time, I didn't have to mess with it other than to use it. Most of the diving was around coral bommies or small islands. So, a reef and a wall on many dives.

I must say that the coral is not as vibrant or healthy as on my first trip. There seemed to be a lot of dead fan corals and the reef just didn't look healthy. Still very good and worth diving, but deteriorating. Something, unfortunately, not unique to PNG.

All in all, especially given what I paid for this adventure, it was fantastic. Stayed in a thatched hut carved out the jungle with some fine diving on the side. A good facility with an attentive staff. Plenty of other activities/tours for the afternoon after lunch and a PDS [Post Dive Snooze]. I had a blast.
